Two of the most important women in my life kindled my love for cooking from a young age. They showed me how food could bring people together and as a way to express love. I believe that my love for cooking has been passed down through generations, which made me decide to turn this love and passion into my living.
I studied for 3 years at a highly acclaimed college (Cape Town Hotel School), where I fell in love with French patisserie. It is as though I was born to do it. Since then, I worked in various professional kitchens in all of the sections, making me an all-rounder. My signature dish is my Cape Malay inspired cauliflower steak, which combines warm, spicy, South African flavours into a satisfying vegetarian dish, which ticks all the boxes: salty, spicy, sweet, sour, umami. This is my cooking style - taking familiar flavours and ingredients and turning them into something truly special.
